What does the Personal Learning Coach do?
Personal Learning Coaches need to be empathetic and have time to listen to learners; they also have good study and communication skills. The aim is make the young person believe in themselves and to raise their self-esteem by:
- listening to their problems and concerns
- showing how to prioritise work tasks
- praising achievement
- helping to manage social and work time
- being an advocate
- breaking large, complex tasks into smaller, more manageable ones
- helping to motivate the learner when it all just seems too much!
