Case study 6: The Isle College
The Isle College has sited its Personal Learning Coaches
in the Learning Resource Centre, so that students see them as part of
main stream provision. It also makes it easy for students to access
the provision on an ad hoc and informal basis. Any student can get help
from the Personal Learning Coaches, not just those who have special
learning needs. All are welcome!
Here's a case study about
one level 3 learner
‘ Lorna came to the coaches of her own accord. She has an ongoing illness which means that she is often behind on her work and feels that it is all too much at times. The coaches initially helped her with the annotation of her sketchbook, giving advice on word choice. She needed 'someone to sit with'' who could help her to concentrate. She slowly gained in confidence and started annotating her own work.
The coaches helped Lara to complete her personal statement for UCAS. She found it hard to put into words her skills and attributes, although she has many. She now has a place at her first choice university! The coaches also helped her to secure
funding.
