Case study 5: A training provider

Jackie Elms works for a training provider in Cambridgeshire. Her role is supporting candidates by visiting them in their workplace and helping them with their assessments, so when she was asked to participate in the personal learning coaching project she felt this was a natural extension of her role. She was keen to be involved in a new development and to develop her own skills in coaching.
It has not been easy to fit in a caseload of five learners in addition to her usual caseload, especially as the learners are far flung geographically and travel takes time. However, Jackie is enjoying the challenge of personal learning coaching and trying out various strategies to help young people learn. She is also building a portfolio of evidence towards the City and Guilds 'Coaching in the Workplace' award.
This is how Jackie describes the experience:
‘ I am really enjoying helping my candidates and seeing them progress - I'm finding some of the new ideas really work. It's also great that I can get a qualification at the same time. ’
