‘ I was at school last year doing my GCSEs. It was a very tough year. I felt under loads of pressure as my sister got all As and Bs in her exams. I was in the top group for English and Maths but I couldn't keep up. I thought I'd only been put there as my sister had been so smart - a geek even.
Anyway, I got offered a PLC - I was apprehensive - I had enough to worry about with parents and teachers without someone else putting their oar in.
Well, Shaun was great - he was quite young and he knew exactly what I meant about my sister. He had an older sister who was a doctor! He told me that I wouldn't have been put in that class if I wasn't clever enough - he looked back at my work and said my grades were fine. I felt much better after that, but he said he could help me get even better marks, and he did.
Every time I got worried about homework, he made me read it slowly, think about where we'd covered it in class or where I could get the information, then he would help me plan to do a bit each day until it was finished. I'm doing A levels now and I manage on my own but I still miss Shaun. ’
