Case study 1: Shara - a learner
Shara works for Lunn Poly on a Modern Apprenticeship scheme. She loves
her job in a travel agency and knows she's on the right career path.
However, she is studying for her NVQ Level 2 in Travel and Tourism and
needs to study every day.
It is difficult to study whilst also having lots of new tasks to learn. To really get on in this business, Shara needs to do a Level 3 qualification after completing the Level 2. Sometimes, she finds all the work overwhelming even though it's exactly what she wants to do.

‘ I volunteered for personal learning coaching. There were 10 places available for all the travel people and I knew it would help me. I'm very ambitious. My assistant manager did a modern apprenticeship and she's just got her promotion and she's only 19! She really encourages me - she says if she could do it, I can too. She's met my learning coach so we can all talk together if there's a problem.
Sue - that's my coach - helps me sort out what work should take priority and she helps me plan my week - including my social life and favourite TV. I like her because she doesn't tell me what to do, she's just very supportive. I can call her if I need to as well. ’
